Homesick for fall. Fall in Ohio.
Unseasonably warm Indian summer weather.
One of our favorite family activities was going apple picking. As many as the bag can hold, and as many as you can eat along the way! Row after row of sweet, fragrant trees brimming with ripe apples. Even the ground would be covered.
Daddy would hold his babies high, as tiny hands reached out to pick the perfect apple.
Belly’s full, bags too heavy to carry…
Next, a walk through the pumpkin patch to choose the best pumpkins! Hills covered with bright orange- still attached to the vine.
Maybe even a hayride, if we’re lucky.
And the leaves. An endless spectrum of color in our backyard full of trees. Leaves raining down upon the ground–to be raked into piles and jumped into, of course!
At night, the air would become crisp, as we built a campfire. Sitting alongside it’s warmth roasting hot-dogs and marshmallows on sticks.
Oh, the days of fall, and the memories. I’ve been away from you for too long, and I miss you dearly.
